What is a PSA to CKOfm?

A Public Service Announcement (PSA) is information on a community event that your church or organization is holding. Generally there is no charge for this event.

What qualifies for a PSA on CKOfm radio at no charge?

If your event directly effects the well being of youth, example car wash to raise money for a mission trip, or a trip to see a Christian event in another city. Youth are important to CKOfm.

No charge PSA's are also available to an organization that supports CKOfm in either a financial way or with volunteering time to make CKOfm a better station for the community. We get at least 3-5 request per day for free public service announcements. Most come from churches or organizations that do not support CKOfm financially even in a small way, or with volunteered time. This makes it very hard for us to put all of these on the air. We do have to support first those that support us. CKOfm operates on a very tight budget as revenues alone from advertising covers only a small portion of our operating expenses. This means we have minimal qualified staff for producing or airing PSA's. This requires time that is very scarce.

So how can your church organization help CKO and be sure the PSA gets on the air?

Contribute from your budget either yearly or monthly a sum that reflects the amount of members in your church. We give no preference to a small church with 50 members or a large church with 1000 members. Or! contribute an amount you can afford for the particular announcement that you wished aired. Example, a church that has only 50 members may contribute a minimum of $25.00. This to us is considered a sign of good faith. A larger church may contribute $100. Every situation is considered under it's particular circumstances. If you are holding a concert that has a ticket price then we do not consider this a PSA as revenues are received either directly to the artist or to the church sponsoring the event. We want you to be successful, but we do need revenues to be successful as well. Either a flat negotiated price or a portion of the ticket sales are usually the way to handle this kind of situation.

What is an advertisement to CKOfm?

A regular commercial that benefits an organization in a financial way. The most obvious is a business operating in the CKOfm listening area. The least obvious would be the local church holding an event where although the mission is to get the message of Christ, but also is an event that has a budget where sound, lights and theatrical supplies are purchased and tickets are sold. It is not unusual for an organization to pay thousands to mainstream businesses to create the event, than not understand why we would charge to air information on it. As you must understand we have to pay the bills as well in order to continue with CKOfm.
